“Of all the things that men may heed, 'Tis most of love they sing indeed.”― J.R.R. Tolkien
I know it's been a hot minute since we last posted on our blog, and to make up for it, I've quoted the late and great J.R.R. Tolkien. We've been absent only because big things have been happening over here that took a lot of time and coordination! Specifically so we could create this post, as a matter of fact!
I recently worked with several fabulous vendors to create a mock shoot. As many of you already know, I'm getting married this year *girlish squeal* and no joke, everything is already planned, booked, etc. (I'm sure you're not surprised.)
I will be wearing my mother's dress *her girlish squeal* but with a few modifications since it is not 1982 and I'm shorter and broader than her. I really wanted to capture the beauty and vintage feel of this dress before we took it to the butcher (nothing too drastic, I promise) so that she could have something to remember it by (also just know there are no photos from when she originally got the dress so there's that too.) So here it is! I could not have done it without the amazing talent, time and passion these three ladies gave for this project.

The Location: The Miramont Castle
Owned and operated by the Manitou Springs Historical Society, their mission is to preserve and restore the architectural integrity of Miramont Castle, and to provide educational experiences and resources not only on the Castle itself, but on the history of Manitou Springs, its indigenous people and artifacts.
They graciously allowed us to have our shoot outside of their normal business hours, and in the midst of their Tearoom remodeling project! Elise was our contact and she was such a huge help! She helped us find some of the best spots in and around the Castle and was so sweet through the whole process.
I highly recommend visiting this unique museum. They are artifacts inside the rooms that help you understand what life was like in the castle in the 1800's. It had gorgeous architecture and for being tightly squeezed into an already tiny town, it won't disappoint. I also highly recommend making a tea time appointment (once construction is finished) as their three course tea session is absolutely delicious! Two Pinkies up for this gorgeous piece of history!
Hair & Makeup: Jess the Pixie Artistry, LLC
Jess was AMAZING to work with! She was so easy to communicate with and she was genuinely excited to work with us for the project! She's quirky and oh so sweet. She made the almost three hour session fly by! She has a gorgeous in-home studio that makes you feel like you've stepped into a fairy tale, not to mention the cute little furry visitor who kept us company (her puppy dog to be precise.)
We had given Jess examples to sort of set the tone for the shoot and she nailed it! While taking a few artistic liberties (as we artists should) she created a look that unified the dress and location of the shoot perfectly.
I would absolutely recommend her to anyone and everyone for their hair and makeup needs!
Here's a little more about Jess and her company and some photos of the work she did for us:
"My name is Jess. I want to use my skills to empower you to look and feel the best version of YOU for your special day. Along with years of experience, I graduated from Paul Mitchell the School & became a licensed cosmetologist in 2015. Since a young age, I have always had a passion for helping others look and feel beautiful. One of my first childhood memories includes endless practice on my mom’s hair. (Shout out to my mom for always being so supportive and having the best hair to practice with!) That is where my love and passion for hair all began. I continuously take advanced education and certifications in hair and makeup to ensure I am executing the PERFECT beauty service for you. I strive to give you a look that leaves you feeling like the best version of yourself. With every service comes a detailed consultation to ensure that I give you exactly what you’re looking for and a glimmer of magic to make your day special."
Bouquet: Supreme Camellia
I had the pleasure of first working with Yana for a mock shoot back in August of 2019 and she did an amazing job then too! The detail and quality of her bouquets (florals in general) is unreal. These are bouquets and boutonnieres no one would ever want to toss out.
She worked with Monica, our lovely photographer, on the colors and style of the bouquet to match the rest of the theme but also to give a little pop of color to a dark and moody setting.
Here are some photos of the stunning bouquet she made for us!
Photography: Deus Volt Photography
Monica was incredible! We had partnered together for a wedding back in September and from there we decided to work together on this project. She has a wonderful eye for photography and definitely has the easy going, personable personality photographers should have. She did amazing even with a slightly precarious location with dark rooms and awkward lighting. She helped bring this project to life and I can't thank her enough!
Here's a little from her about her company:
"I'm Monica, owner of Deus Volt Photography and wife and mother to my wonderful husband and daughter. Deus Volt Photography has been in business for two years when I decided to turn my hobby into a profession. Lifestyle photography is my passion. I understand that these moments in life- weather a yearly round of family pictures, a new baby or senior, or a milestone like a wedding- are all timeless and irreplaceable and what better way to hold on to those happy moments than to have a snapshot of it? I have enjoyed capturing my beautiful family's stepping stones as well as several other families and I have loved every second of it! When not taking pictures, I enjoy spending time with my baby girl and wonderful hardworking husband, getting into nature ( like going sledding with a 10 month old. TO. DIE. FOR.), and recently, learning how the heck to create a home without an unlimited budget and very limited shopping time (baby, remember?). Pinterest. You are my hero."
These lovely ladies made this whole project a success and I am so very grateful for their hard work and amazing talent. I definitely hope to work together for more shoots in the future and I hope you will join me in hiring them for special occasions that will exercise their skills!
As always, thank you for reading! Until next time!
Fair thee well,
Now without further ado - the rest of the photos!
